Food Allergies Impact Budgets

A recent The New York Times article discusses the financial strain that many families with food allergies incur because of food allergies. The reasons include the constant monitoring which leads one spouse to often quit working, high expenses for specialty food items, including many online grocers, and stockpiling epi-pens.

When specialty food bills become excessive, Dr. Tamara Perry (a researcher at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute) suggests writing a formal appeal to your insurance company for coverage — especially if it is for something as specific as baby formula.
